About Me

This blog is devoted to reflections and images drawn from daily life in Paris and travels abroad. I first moved to Paris in the mid-1980s as a graduate student, completed a doctorate at the Institut d¹Etudes Politiques de Paris (Sciences Po), and subsequently pursued a career in government, media, and academia. I was hosting a television show and running a large daily newspaper in Toronto before returning to France in 2006 with my two bichons, Oscar and Leo. My return to Paris also marked a return to academic life, as a professor at American University of Paris and my alma mater Sciences Po. I have also been writing books — one on social media, my next book on France, and a novel in the works. In many respects, this blog is a fresh, spontaneous first draft of that work.
